On a beautiful summer’s eve we attended a concert called “B in the Park” at Major’s Hill Park in downtown Ottawa. Organized by the Sons of Scotland Pipe Band and running for the past 13 years, our oldest civilian pipe band hosted two other visiting bands on route to the Maxville Highland Games. What a perfect night to listen to the Rocky Mountain Pipe Band of Calgary and the Viscount Park Pipe Band of Edmonton. All three of these bands performed for the crowd while Mother Nature provided a colorful sunset as the backdrop. The skirl of the pipes was accompanied at times by some talented Highland Dancers which gave the audience a real treat. Major’s Hill is a great venue as it allows gorgeous views of the National Arts Gallery, the Parliament buildings, American Embassy, along with the Byward Market, Fairmont Chateau Laurier and the Notre Dame Cathedral of Ottawa. Interestingly; the park was formally established one year before the Sons of Scotland was established in 1876. B in the Park2 B in the Park3 B in the Park4 B in the Park5 B in the Park6
