On Sunday, June 24th members of BC District 16 continued their commitment and support to the fund raising efforts of the BC Branch of the Kidney Foundation.
Seven years ago members gathered at Trout Lake in Vancouver for the first Tartan Stroll and raised six thousand dollars. The Stroll has continued to grow in both participants and money raised. For the past three years we have joined with the Kidney Foundation in their Walk for Life Program and combined the Tartan Stroll with their Vancouver Walk. This year, at the Athletes Village on False Creek in Vancouver, we continued to add our distinctive ‘Scottish Flavour’ to the Walk/Stroll with our members in kilts and tartan joining with a Pipe Band, a kilted honour guard for the dignitaries, and the Royal Scottish Country Dancers.
Sons of Scotland members made some significant contributions through their fund raising efforts. Sister Tilda Stewart raised over $1700 and the Svantung Family raised over $800. We have also supported the Walk/Stroll by providing logistical support and assisting with the arrangement of Scottish entertainment. The value of our Scottish Flavour is greatly appreciated by the Kidney Foundation and other Kidney Walks across BC are seeking to add Tartan to their efforts
The final tally for the Walk/Stroll and the other Walks across BC will not be available until the Fall but already the Kidney Foundation has reported they have surpassed the $1 million mark.
