BC Tartan Walk

On Sunday, June 24th members of BC District 16 continued their commitment and support to the fund raising efforts of the BC Branch of the Kidney Foundation. Seven years ago members gathered at Trout Lake in Vancouver for the first Tartan Stroll and raised six thousand dollars. The Stroll has continued to grow in both participants and money raised.  For the past three years we have joined with the Kidney Foundation in their Walk for Life Program and combined the Tartan Stroll with their Vancouver Walk. A Scottish museum may soon be home to one of Michael Jackson‘s unreleased albums. More than a decade after Jackson and David Gest recorded songs based on the poetry of Robert Burns, Gest reportedly intends to donate the recordings to the poet’s official museum in Ayrshire. In a career of peculiar projects, it remains one of the singer’s strangest: a collection of showtunes inspired by Burns’s life and work. Simon Fraser University Sets Burns Record

On Friday, January 25, 2013, Burns Day, The Centre for Scottish Studies at Simon Fraser University’s Downtown Campus four members of the Sons of Scotland helped set a new record for the continuous reading and singing of Burns works. The readings began at 9:30 am and continued for 5 hours and 41 minutes and featured a number of Vancouver media personalities and representatives from all the Scottish Societies and Burns enthusiasts in the Greater Vancouver Area.
