Tartan Day Celebration

April 8, 2017 - 12:00 to 4:00 pm - Centennial Square

The Victoria Highland Games Association is pleased to host Victoria’s 7th annual TARTAN DAY celebrations on Saturday, April 8, 2017, in recognition of “National Tartan Day”. From noon until 4 pm, Centennial Square will be decked out in full Tartan to celebrate the city’s very strong Scottish heritage and culture.

Kilt Skate to be held at NATHAN PHILLIPS SQUARE!

This will be the first year that Sir John A’s Great Canadian Kilt Skate will be held in Toronto. We will join five other cities across Canada that have been hosting kilt skates since 2015, when the first ones were organized by the Scottish Society of Ottawa to honour the 200th birthday of Canada’s first Prime Minister. The Victoria branch of the Fraser’s Highlanders is hosting an illustrated speaking engagement by Sam Allison, the author of Driv’n by Fortune: the Scots’ march to modernity in America. Mr. Allison is coming here at his own cost to support the work of the Fraser Highlanders here in Victoria and local veterans groups. He is a Professor Emeritus of McGill University. Mr. Allison will also be speaking at the University of Victoria on Monday, September 12 - under the sponsorship of the legacy left by Hugh and Marion Small. The topic for this presentation will be Sir Walter’s Scott-land: Fictionalizing Facts in the New World. Place - University of Victoria - Clearihue Building - room A203 Time - 7:30 pm Cost - free

re-open the Manor House at Fintry Provincial Park

On Sunday, May 8th several members of Kildonnan Camp #166 will be in hand to re-open the Manor House at Fintry Provincial Park's Spring Fair on Westside Rd, near Vernon, BC. These Kildonnan Camp members, also members of the  Kalamalka Highlanders Pipe Band will perform several tunes  as a celebration to the "Laird of Fintry", Captain James Cameron Dun-Waters. Captain Dun-Waters came from Scotland, and arrived in the Fintry area in 1908, where he settled in to become a gentleman farmer, taming the rugged landscape and creating an amazingly productive farm that used all the agricultural advantages of the era. His legacy still stands today, as his octogonal dairy barn, hay shed, Manor House and waterfall aqueduct systems are available to tour on site at the Provincial Park.

Kildonnan Camp #166 is pleased to announce that several of its members  who are also members of the Kalamalka Highlanders Pipe Band from Vernon, BC will be attending "Silver City Days" in Trail, BC on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7th. These Pipers, and Drummers will be marching in the Silver City Days parade on Saturday, and then attending a "Spring Fling" competition with other local Pipe Bands.
